Hello Buccaneers!
Today I’m doing a hydro facial. From my research while I was waiting on my machine to arrive, I came up with a plan: All the things facial.
First thing is to setup machine and get all supplies ready. I have distilled water in all the machine bottles. I want to get the hang of the machine before using any expensive products. I chose Neutrogena Stubborn Blackheads Daily Serum to pre-treat my worst gunk filled areas. Instead of using a traditional conductive gel for the ultrasound handle, I opted for vegetable glycerine.

I cleansed all parts of the machine that will touch my face and gave my face a spritz with hypochlorous spray. Then I applied the blackhead serum to silky gauze and placed on my trouble spots. My goal for this is to loosen the hardened outer blackhead cap to aid the machine in dislodging it and then being able to suck out all the gunk.
I decided not to use steam for this facial but will for all future Hydrafacials. Figuring out which tip to use with the hydra handle is trial and error. I did not like the spiral tips. I felt like there was a lot of fluid loss. I’m glad I used only water for this first use. I ended up using the plain circle medium sized tip. I will need to experiment with all the tips and see which ones I like best.
I started with medium water and medium suction settings. The suction is powerful. I learned not to go over the same spot more than 2-3 times. Overuse of the hydra handle will cause hickey like bruising.
The minor bruising and redness I had from the facial was completely gone by the next day. I will need to be mindful of not looking like I lost a fight with my vacuum cleaner in the future. 😂
I also need to remember to empty the discard bottle before a facial. Was cool to look at all the gunk floating in the bottle at the end of the facial.
On to the facial. I removed the gauze and used the hydra handle all over my face. Then I used the scraper. This handle was a surprise favorite of the entire experience.
The amount of yucky gunk that came out of my face using this tool was astounding. I could see white gunk literally pop out of my skin. The ultrasonic vibration and a bit of pressure really make your pores purge. I found the scraper glided easier when my face was moist so i reapplied distilled water regularly while using it.
After using the scraper, I used the hydra handle one last time. I figured anything the scraper missed was likely loosened enough that the hydra suction would now grab it. I was pleased to see the impressive amount of gunk in the discard bottle after this round.
I used the other handles but honestly do not know what I’m doing with them. I need to do more research before using any of them again.
I plan to use the hydra handle and scraper weekly. My pores looked like empty craters immediately after the facial. The several days following I think my pores looked smaller than normal but then slowly filled with sebum again. I have hope with good skin care routine and weekly hydrafacials I may reduce my pores and have smoother skin.
